not happy

Postby Cieran » Mon Jul 19, 2010 4:03 pm

im not happy, ive taken it to a garage and they have said that i need "a power steering pump, 2 pipes for it and an aux belt" and they quoted me "£530" and i basically like fuck am i paying that, i know its the ressestion but thats taking the biscuit.

So ive been cheeky and gone to a brakers and they want £10 for a steering pump so i dont think i will be going for that one :/ but i may be getting a new car and it might not be a ford </3 so im quite sad but hopefully i can get my car fixed for cheaper, i dont want to lose a amazing car

Balls to that!!! What year and model is your KA?

http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m570.l1313&_nkw=ka+power+steering+pump&_sacat=See-All-Categories
up to 100 for a new pump

http://shop.ebay.co.uk/i.html?_nkw=ka+haynes+manual&_sacat=0&_dmpt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&_odkw=ka+power+steering+pump&_osacat=0&bkBtn=&_trksid=p3286.m270.l1313
12 for a haynes manual.

20-30 for some cheap tools etc

http://desc.shop.ebay.co.uk/Car-Parts-/14239/i.html?Manufacturer=Ford&LH_TitleDesc=1&rt=nc&Model%252F%2520Series=Ka&_nkw=ka%20power%20steering%20belt%20drive&_dmpt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&_fln=1&_ssov=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m282
15 for the belt

and about 10-15 for the pipework i guess.

Also give your local ford garage part department a ring for a quote, the genuine ford parts might not be that much more expensive...

So about 175 and that gives the tools and manual to have a go at fixing any other problems yourself :D Get the manual first to check exactly what is required to replace the pump but I cant imagine that it is rocket science.

If you get stuck give us a yell and im sure one of us could pop around to give you a hand.

i would just start with the pipes, if they are sucking in air the bubbles creat noise when under pressure which could be perceived as a groan

my friends focus was worn through due to ford not quite doing things right at the factory and the pipe rubbed on something else
Old fords never die, the just get faster, and more sideways

Just spoken to Martyn and he reckons the pipework maybe more expensive than £10-15. He had replace it on the his focus/escort (I can remember which), and the pipe work was about £100 as the top pipe includes a sensor??

Best ring ford for a price on the pipes :)
